Denmark. Her younger sister Julia had joined the
church and decided to go to Utah with her sister.
They crossed the ocean on a sail ship. Were six weeks
on the water. She could tell many stories of
those who were seasick. She stood the junction of the ship fine. Could see the amusing side of the experiences.
Such as meals that were prepared to eat, being thrown
from the mess tables, dishes and food being rolled
from one side of the vessel to the other when
the sea was rough. In time they landed on the American
shore without serious trouble. They came on by train
to (I am not sure about the contemporary station) terminus of the railroad. From there on they came by handcart and walked from Florence to Zion, a distance of thirteen hundred miles to S.L.C. They rested at Florence for 2 week while the company were
preparing to start. Here they had to throw away their feather beds
and all extra clothing. Handcarts were , not were only built to hold
cooking articles a meagure bed and a supply necessary provisions
while waiting there. Julia met a man and he persuaded her to marry him and stay. She projects ahead perhaps made
courtship, easier for him and caused Julia's faith to fail. (some of Julia children are living at Milhwaukee . Mother received letters from them.) Thus Mother had face the trip alone with Hannah then 2 years old.
